I have been a funny man my whole life (except, of course, when I was younger. Then I was just a funny boy.) But being funny creates expectations. Others think you are going to say something funny all the time, and sometimes I either can't or don't say something funny. In fact, there have been times when I would be preaching in my church, and I would say something serious, but because of the expectations for me to be funny, people would snicker. I would just look at them in disgust with a face that says, "Don't you feel stupid now? You just laughed at an inappropriate time during the worship service. Are you even a Christian, or are you just playing a game?"
The pressure to be funny is no joke. It doesn't help that most of my humorous statements are said with a straight face. I understand how people could be confused. You can never know when I am serious or not. Like now. These twin curses of "wit" and "sarcasm" are too much to bear.
